Abstract

The important gas phase rate processes governing the abundances of molecules in dense interstellar (molecular) clouds are thoroughly reviewed. Recent contributions to our understanding of gas phase rate processes are explored. The use of these processes in chemical models is discussed with an emphasis on the basic details of model construction. Isotopic fractionation and the formation of complex molecules are considered.
