Abstract

Interesting new information about the spectroscopy of van der Waals complexes is obtained from the studies of mixed isotopomers in a supersonic jet in coincidence with high resolution mass spectroscopy. This allows to separate the different overlapping spectra of the isotopic labeled dimers even for the very weak 13c substituted complexes. In particularly it could be shown, that the absorption in one of the two halves of the benzene dimer is essentially independent of the other half and only in the homodimer a very weak excition interaction is found. The structure of the benzene dimer does not appear to be T-shaped, but is now found to be rather V-shaped.
