Abstract
In this paper the generalized master equation is employed to model the bubble population in a bubbling fluidized bed. The random variables are the number of bubbles of different sizes in various compartments. The fluctuations in the total surface area of the bubble phase are also studied by deriving experessions for the mean, variance and correlation function. Details concerning the generalized master equation can be found elsewhere [2].
