Abstract

A computer controlled meltspinning unit allows collection of 12,000 data during each run of the following process parameters:

  • melt temperature (measured by a Pt 18 thermocouple)

  • argon gas pressure in the crucible

  • wheel surface temperature (type “J” sliding thermocouples)

  • nozzle - wheel gap distance (measured by modulated IR-light. The gap is adjusted by a computer controlled step motor with a 1 µm step width)

  • ribbon surface temperature at up to 5 measuring points, tracing the same point of the ribbon. (Measurement with fast response IR-pyrometers. The cooling rate is derived from the time- temperature differences between the measuring points.)
