Organisation of liver transplantation

  • Chapter
Progress in Liver Transplantation

Part of the book series: Developments in Gastroenterology ((DIGA,volume 6))

Abstract

Although results are improving, even in the best centres liver transplantation carries a considerable mortality when compared to other therapeutic modalities in medicine. Since the procedure is complex, the liver transplant team must be well organised. The patient must be provided with the best multidisciplinary skills available. Unnecessary risks (risk-free liver transplantations do not exist) should not be taken. Provisions for data analysis should be made to enable improvement of results and, where possible, simplification of procedures.
