Abstract

Mr. Allgöwer, you demonstrated an 8% recurrence rate for gastric ulcers at 5 years and my data are comparable. You reported a 5 – 6% symptomatic recurrence rate for duodenal ulcer at 5 years and the over-all figures for our unit in Leeds are about 8%. So I fully support your opinion on the unifying concept of gastric and duodenal ulcer with the similar kind of operative approach with, of course, taking enourmous care that the gastric ulcers are benign.
