Abstract

Impaired elderly are those elderly who over a prolonged period of time are seriously handicapped in their capacities to run an independent household. By this definition we skip all the literature on support functions of primary relationships for older people in general and concentrate on situations where the principle of reciprocity in support is mostly invalid.
