Abstract

Mössbauer spectroscopy [1, 2] is a useful probe of the microscopie environment of certain ions in ion exchange membranes and resins because it provides information both about the chemical environment of the exchanged ions and also about the rigidity of the lattice in which they are bound. This paper presents results obtained using 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy applied to Nafion (R) perfluorinated cation exchange membranes in the Fe2+ and Fe3+ forms.
