Abstract
Most in vivo studies on the epidemiology of gallstone disease have been performed by oral cholecystography. However, this technique has several disadvantages since it presents the hazards associated with X-ray exposure, is time-consuming, expensive and quite often does not offer a definite answer. All these limitations do not suggest the use of oral cholecystography as the technique of choice for epidemiological purposes.
