Summary
The paper reports on 15 years experience in water quality monitoring of surface waters in the State of Baden-Württemberg, which is based on techniques of representative continuous sampling and multiple parameter analytical procedures in the central water laboratory. The technique of sampling is in close relation to handling many problems as sample preservation, transport organisation, emergency measures etc. The procedures have been adopted by several environmental agencies in the F.R. Germany and other states of the European Communities. The paper describes the procedures, their advantages, applications, restrictions and problems not yet solved.
