The Use of Pulse Radiolysis to Study Transient Species in the Gas Phase

  • Conference paper
The Study of Fast Processes and Transient Species by Electron Pulse Radiolysis

Part of the book series: NATO Advanced Study Institutes Series ((ASIC,volume 86))

Abstract

Examples are chosen from the literature to show the types of species which have been investigated in the gas phase using the pulse radiolysis technique. The types of processes occurring in pure rare gases and rare gases containing additives are examined. Techniques used to study ion-recombination processes, ion-molecule reactions, and electron capture reactions are discussed and examples of typical results are given. The use of pulse radiolysis to determine rate constants for reactions of atoms and free radicals is also examined.
