Abstract
Large bowel cancer is one of the major neoplasms in western countries and is the major site of carcinogenesis in the United States [1]; the prognosis is relatively good (compared with, for example, cancer of the stomach, lung or pancreas) so that lung cancer remains the major cause of death from malignancy with colorectal cancer second to lung cancer in men, to breast cancer in women and to lung cancer when both sexes are combined.
