Abstract

The problem of establishing such an organization on the international level was discussed at conferences in Washington in 1889 and in St. Petersburg in 1912.

The 9th Session of the Assembly of IMCO on the 14th of November 1975 approved amendments to some articles of the Convention on IMCO. One of them is related to the name of the Organization. It was proposed in future to call IMCO “International Maritime Organization”. By August, 24, 1979 it had been approved by 50 states.
