Abstract

The analysis published by W. A. K. Christie (1913), and performed on a sample taken by Annandale in October 1912 is certainly the first accurate and complete analysis of major ions in Lake Kinneret water (Table 24). In 1950, Oren was given the task of investigating the chemical and physical features of the lake in the framework of a common project of the Israel Hydrological Service, the National Planning Board and the Research Council of Israel. He carried out three surveys in 1950 and 1951. His measurements concerned dissolved oxygen, pH and chloride. In the fifties, Taussig, from Water Planning of Israel, also performed numerous analyses of the lake water. In early 1963, Yashouv investigated the influence of the Jordan water on the northern part of the lake and measured essentially chlorides, oxygen and dissolved nitrogen. From 1963 until 1967, the Water Company, Mekorot, carried out a weekly routine survey which included the major ions and the various forms of nitrogen and phosphorus. From 1968 until the present, the Kinneret Limnological Laboratory continued and developed the weekly routine program.
