Abstract

The interaction of a Grand Unification Monopole with a nucleon (a proton or a neutron) can lead to a baryon-number violating process, in which the nucleon decays into a lepton and one or more mesons. Here we briefly describe the physical process by which the decay takes places, then we summarize the results obtained by previous experiments, and finally we present the analysis of the MACRO1 data in the search for the nucleon decay.
