Abstract

Industrial type fully digital diagnostic system was developed in the frame of BRITE Project BE 97-5040 for monitoring of particles velocity and temperature in thermal spraying. The system is based on the new CCD image sensor providing higher sensitivity in near infrared spectral region and higher saturation signal level in comparison with conventional devises. The diagnostic system and special software for image treatment were tested under actual industrial conditions of plasma spraying (plasma gun power was in the range 20-50 kW) of A12O3 and ZrO2+wt.8%Y2O3 powders. Diagnostic system demonstrates high performance in plasma spraying monitoring: 20 urn particle size detection limit; 1500 K minimum detectable temperature; 700 m/s maximum particle velocity.
