Abstract

Some years ago the Commission of the European Union established FOCUS (FOrum for the Co-ordination of pesticide fate models and their USe). Several working groups made inventories of the characteristics of fate models for leaching to groundwater, soil and surface waters. Based on the recommendations new working groups were formed on leaching/soil scenario development and surface water scenario development. The results and the recommendations of the models to be used together with the scenario development process are described. In addition, the use of the scenarios in the registration procedure to place plant protection products on the market according to Directive 91/414/EEC is elucidated.
