Abstract
Explorer 45 (S3), launched November 15, 1971, into an elliptical, equatorial orbit with apogee 5.24R E and perigee 220 km, has provided detailed measurements of the pitch angle distributions of trapped ring current protons from 1 to 800 keV along with simultaneous measurements of the geomagnetic field. In this paper, I summarize some analyses of Explorer 45 observation that have added to our understanding of the stormtime ring current.
