Design of Mechanical Equipment for Laboratory Staff and Patient Safety

Abstract

In recent years, throughout the Health Services of the western world, there has been a steady increase in the number of departments employing teams of bioengineers and medical physicists. Whilst the activities of these departments range over a very wide field, they are all to some extent innovative; that is they are concerned with the development and assessment of new techniques and new pieces of equipment. This continuing process of development and improvement inevitably leads, at least in some cases, to the introduction of new diagnostic or therapeutic equipment into the clinical environment.
