Abstract
A new semi empirical washoff method has been developed (Sivakumar, M. and Boroumand-Nasab, S. 1993) to predict pollutant washoff load from urban catchments based on the assumption that transport rate is proportional to the distribution and availability of pollutants. In this paper, the new washoff algorithm is tested against two existing washoff algorithms (SWMM4 and Nakamura) using available nutrient field data for an Australian urban catchment for total oxidised nitrogen (NOx-N), ammonia (NH3-N) and total phosphorous (TP). The calibration results are shown to be better for the new developed washoff algorithm compared to the two existing washoff methods. Implication of the results for future modelling and catchment management strategies are also highlighted.
