Numerical Scattering Results for a Rough, Unsedimented Seafloor

  • Chapter
Ocean Reverberation

Abstract

We have adopted a hybrid finite difference technique to investigate the role of elasticity in determining reverberation or backscatter properties of a realistic rough seafloor. Scattering from an elastic medium was found to exceed that from a model acoustic seafloor at shallow grazing angles by nearly 15 dB and the variability with wavenumber for the two seafloors was quite distinct.
