Abstract

The status of our knowledge of the extent and distribution of dark matter in late-type galaxies is reviewed. Recent attempts to alleviate the need for dark matter in late-type galaxies are examined, but none are found to give a satisfactory explanation. The mass distribution and shapes of dark matter halos are still known only poorly. Recent work on halo shapes suggests that they are not as flattened as predicted by cosmological simulations.
