Abstract

Polyactive a 55/45 poly(ethylene oxide)/poly(butylene terephthalate) copolyether ester, was investigated as regards its general in vitro and in vivo biocompatibility. Special attention was directed to the interactions of the polymer with bone.

Light microscopy, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, x-ray microanalysis, and morphometry showed a satisfactory general biocompatibility of Polyactive and seemed indicative for the bone-bonding capacity of this material. Push-out experiments confirmed the bonding of Polyactive to bone.
