Optimising CCDs for spectrographs

  • Chapter
Optical Detectors For Astronomy II

Part of the book series: Astrophysics and Space Science Library ((ASSL,volume 252))

Abstract

For a spectrograph giving a fixed format spectrum, the quantum efficiency can be optimised for the different wavelengths across the CCD. It is shown that a slight modification of the conventional single layer anti-reflection coating can give major improvements in QE for such instruments, while at the same time minimising problems with fringing and stray light from the CCD.
