Abstract
This paper consists of three parts. Part I challenges the “rights approach” to the future generations problem. Agreeing with D. Parfit’s argument that an appeal to rights cannot entirely solve the future generations problem (called the Non-Identity Problem by him), further possible arguments will be explored: the talk on rights of unconceived people is difficult, which rights or whether rights would be claimed by future generations is unknown, and the talk on rights of future generations is only a weak voice in the conflicting voices of a huge chorus of right-talks.
