Abstract

For the conservation of Greek nature an overview of its plant communities is indispensable. Most classes have insufficiently been surveyed. The extent of gaps in knowledge is very often unknown. In order to detect the gaps and to give an overview of the existing knowledge on coastal vegetation of Greece, the releves available have been collected and a Greek Phytosociological Database has been constructed. In this scope a review of the plant communities occuring along the Greek coast is in preparation. This stu-dy presents an overview of plant communities of dunes occuring along the Greek coasts.
