Abstract

In May 1987 a 50-year-old male fire-officer presented to his General Practitioner with a 2-week history of increasing pain, tenderness and thickening in the lateral aspect of the right wrist. There was no history of recent trauma. On examination there was marked local tenderness and swelling over the area which was the site of a scar from prior surgery. The patient was otherwise completely asymptomatic. There was no significant family history and he was on no medication.
