Abstract

The solution to Maxwell’s Equations for a limited Gaussian beam incident on a partially reflecting boundary is used to study the spatial distribution of the amplitude, phase and Poynting vector for the relected and refracted beams. This analysis demonstrates that the energy of the reflected light comes from one side only of the incident beam and that all the transmitted energy comes from the other side.
