Abstract

The shell model and generalized model considered in the preceding Chapters have made it possible to explain many of the properties of nuclei, and also to establish general trends as the charges and mass numbers of nuclei are varied. There are, however, certain features which cannot be explained in the framework of the shell model or generalized model; this indicates the need to invoke a different approach to the description of the properties of the ground and excited states of nuclei.
