Abstract

In many technical applications mechatronic products offer superior functionality and improved flexibility by integrating features of mechanical, electronic and control systems into one device. But traditional design and modelling methods well known for mechanical, electronic and control systems do not support a complete interdisciplinary design process.

In this paper a new objectoriented design methodology based on a structured top down design strategy is presented. The key idea is the definition of communicating simulation objects acting as reusable building blocks for a computer aided design of mechatronic systems. This approach supports both, the structural top down design as well as the simulation of the behaviour of complete mechatronic devices involving mechanical, electronic and control systems. A very economic implementation based on software processes, allows to distribute large simulation models across multiple processors.
