Abstract

Before moving on to the models I want to introduce some of the mathematics upon which they rest, and the aim of this chapter is to outline some of the more important mathematical ideas used in this book. Much of it may already be familiar to many readers. However, if you have forgotten all about differential calculus, Poisson processes etc. then this chapter should jog your memory!
