Abstract

Psychological tests are clinical measures of aspects of a person’s behavior. Physicians should be familiar with psychological assessment procedures because they may want to request that such tests be performed, will receive test results, and should learn to administer a few of the less complex and comprehensive instruments. But except for the screening tests for coarse brain disease, and for the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), administration and interpretation of psychometrics is the province of psychologists. A physician interested in learning more about these tests should refer to the test manual, to Buros’ Mental Measurements Yearbook [1], or to a standard text such as Anastasi’s Psychological Testing.
