A Contribution to the Recon Struction of Weather in Central Europe at the end of the 16th Century

With regard to meteorological observations of Tycho de Brahe on Hven

  • Chapter
Climatic Changes on a Yearly to Millennial Basis

Abstract

General investigation concerning the sources of meteorological data from the territory of present-day Czechoslovakia for the years 1582 – 1597 /i.e. for the years when Tycho de Brahe made his observation on the isle of Hven/ has been carried out. Most valuable seem to be the regular observations of weather, contained in the diaries of Karel Starší of Žerotín for the years 1588 – 1589 and 1591 /in Latin and Czech/. We present both the examples of daily observations of weather and the monthly summaries of weather character. The reliability of the records has been verified, the terminology used is discussed.
