Abstract
Phase separation will degrade supercritical fluid chromatography performance; however, its effect in supercritical fluid extraction depends on where phase immiscibility occurs in the system. The types of phase behavior that occur in the system components, techniques to avoid phase separation, and a rapid method to evaluate the phase behavior of fluid mixtures are discussed.
