Petrology of the metamorphic rocks

Abstract

This chapter introduces methods of study and description of metamorphic rocks and is intended for readers who are using a petrological microscope to study thin sections. It also discusses the relationship between rock analyses and mineral assemblages, and explains how these may be used to determine the conditions of metamorphism. Finally, a short outline is given of the principles of tectono-thermal modelling, which may be used to link the study of metamorphic rocks to plate tectonic processes.
