Abstract

Briles (1956) and Gilmour (1954) have shown that chickens of inbred lines heterozygous for genes of the B blood group system are superior in performance to homozygotes in a number of traits. Briles and Allen (1961), Allen (1962) and Allen and Gilmour (1962) studied the effects of B system blood group genotypes on performance in commercial inbred lines and in crosses established between such lines. All concluded that an effect of blood group on performance was demonstrated in their data. The experiment reported here extends these observations to cover crosses between non-inbred closed flocks.
