Abstract

Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a serious immunodeficient infectious disease caused by infection of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This disease is primarily transmitted via sexual contact, blood, and vertically from mother to fetus/infant during pregnancy, delivery, or breastfeeding. HIV mainly invades and destroys helper T cells (CD4 + T cells), which compromises or even undermines the immune functions of the human body and finally develops various severe opportunistic infections and neoplasms.
