Abstract

Shermer, Illinois is the unspecified suburb on Chicago’s North Shore where the film, Home Alone, takes place. In fact, this fictitious town is the backdrop for most of writer-director John Hughes’ movies such as Weird Science, the Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink and National Lampoon’s Vacation. In Kevin Smith’s film Dogma, the characters Jay and Silent Bob mention a failed trip to Shermer.
