Abstract
Throughout participants’ narratives, discourses of differences aligned closely with discourses of deficient and deficit. These negative associations surfaced in the children’s discussions of race, ethnicity, language, disability, and autism. The more differences intersected, the greater the deficient and deficit discourse.
