Abstract
Maintaining high quality in doctoral education is important both for knowledge development within the wider community but also naturally for the doctoral students within these particular programmes. Driving and developing doctoral education in a positive direction, requires knowledge of the structure of doctoral education as well as knowledge of how it functions and, critically, how it is experienced by doctoral students.
