Abstract
The two most basic and useful imaging modalities in rural healthcare facilities are ultrasonography and planar radiography. In this chapter, the basic technical specifications of the equipment, namely ultrasound units and X-ray units (both the screen-film system and digital radiography system) are listed along with selection recommendations. Clinical applications for which the equipment may be used are highlighted. Issues such as safety, training, maintenance, quality assurance are discussed briefly.
