Abstract
In this chapter, we introduce basic knowledges for understanding this book. We start with general introduction to electro-osmosis of polymer solutions. Especially, experimental observations are thoroughly explained with referring previous works. We explain a physical aspect of aqueous electrolyte solutions, for example, why electrolyte is generally soluble to water. After that, we focus on the interfacial properties of electrolyte solutions. Electric double layer and electrokinetics are the most important concepts in this book. We explain surface capacitance, electro-osmosis, and surface conductivity in continuum description. In addition to these basic things, we introduce Stern layer which is still issue in the latest research. Finally we summarize the basis of polymer physics which is necessary for the following chapters.
