Abstract

The CT scan on the next page shows a fracture in a vertebra in the upper part of the spine. Vertebral fractures can be dangerous, since the projection of the brain in the spinal canal, the spinal cord, passes through the spinal canal. Vertebral fractures are particularly dangerous when the fracture causes the spinal canal to narrow, thus potentially compressing the spinal cord and all its neural pathways.
