Aesthetic External DCR: The Transconjunctival Approach

Abstract

Primary and secondary nasolacrimal duct obstructions are quite frequently encountered in ophthalmology practice. The traditional surgical approach for managing nasolacrimal duct obstruction (NLDO) is an external dacryocystorhinostomy (Ex-DCR); however, it leaves a scar in the medial canthal area. Transconjunctival DCR is a scarless external technique where the lacrimal system patency is reestablished via inferomedial transconjunctival approach. This chapter would discuss surgical techniques, complications, and outcomes of a transconjunctival approach DCR.
