Abstract
Since the 1960s, Taiwan had transformed from an aid recipient into a donor status. Due to its unique political tension with Mainland China, Taiwan’s official education aid has concentrated on diplomatic allies and countries mainly located in Central America, the Pacific Island states, and Africa. Although geographically focused, the behaviors and patterns of Taiwan’s official development assistance (ODA) have undergone a dramatic change since the 1960s. This chapter particularly aims to analyze the historical development of Taiwan’s official aid in education with emphases on its evolving patterns and the wider political and socioeconomic factors behind the aid behaviors.
