Abstract

The island is probably one of the precious sites that sustains megalithic tradition in the archipelago. The feasts for monumental stone erection were mostly over, due to the cost and rare traditional building materials. Even though community life and solidarity are still in function, sustaining megalithic tradition as it was is impossible today. The liberation of social status through formal education and the adoption of Christianity bring about changes and adjustments in the Nias society.
