Abstract
Faraday rotation data reveal that the inner core of M 87 has a strong, ordered, magnetic field. This field is located in front of the inner radio lobes, and has a pressure at least as large as that of the thermal X-ray plasma. This field must be supported by fluid turbulence in the core region: the question is, what drives the turbulence?
