Abstract

The ultrahigh resolution neutron spin echo (NSE) technique provides the unique opportunity to investigate internal dynamic relaxation processes of polymer molecules simultaneously in spcae and time. In particular, information of the single chain behaviour is not restricted to dilute solutions but may also be obtained, if an appropriate mixture of protonated and deuterated polymers is used, from concentrated systems, the melt included. This paper gives a review on recent NSE studies on liquid polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) systems. Single chain relaxation as well as collective fluctuations are considered in the whole range of concentrations. Thereby especially the cross over phenomena between different dynamic regimes are emphasized. The results are discussed in terms of microscopic models and compared with the theoretical predictions concerning universal and critical behaviour.
