Abstract
From the great field of photoconductive phenomena only a limited number of aspects are discussed. The first two themes vz. the kinetics of charge-carrier generation and recombination, and the contact influence on photocurrents are of fundamental importance. The kinetics of the charge carriers is discussed along lines of the approximation method of Duboc-Klasens. As an example the case of gallium phosphide is treated by this method. Furthermore the phenomena supralinearity, quenching and activation are explained.
In the discussion of contact influence special attention is given to the value of the gain factor that can be realized with different types of contacts. The mechanisms causing saturation of the photocurrent are considered in detail.
the most important methods for the determination of traps in photoconductors are mentioned and special attention is paid to the glow-curve method.
Finally, some examples of photochemical changes in photoconductors are given. These reactions can take place in the bulk material as well as at the photoconductor surface.
