Abstract

With the help of a Monte Carlo simulation of a one-dimensional system of hard rods on a ring we calculated the wave vector and time-dependent intermediate scattering function ƒ (k, t). We were looking for a scaling behavior for this function like the one found in recent light scattering experiments by P.N. Segrè and P.N. Pusey in dense hard sphere systems. For high densities we do not find perfect scaling but a collapse of the various large scattering vector functions ƒ(k, t) around the peak of the structure factor to a narrow range in time.
